How to get your watch customized:
1. Send us an email with what you are looking to have
done.
2. You will receive a reply and shortly after a work order will be emailed to
you.
3. Ship your watch to us. (Our shipping address is at the bottom of the work
order)
A few more details:
- A paypal invoice will be sent to your email address after your watch is checked in. (1 to 7 days after it arrives)
- If your paypal email is different from your contact email please let us know before shipping your watch.
- After payment your watch will be placed in line for work.
- If paying by check or money order please let us know before you ship your watch.
- Insurance with tracking is highly recommended. We are not responsible for watches in transit.
- Do NOT send any watch boxes or factory packaging.
- When your watch is complete you will be emailed a picture. Shipping will usually be the next day.
- All of your old parts (if there are any) will be returned with the watch.
For work requiring diagnosis of a problem:
- A $50 fee will be assessed for the diagnosis.
- The fee will be credited to the total cost of the repair if the customer authorizes the work.
- The fee is non-refundable if the customer declines the work. Since the watch will have to be disassembled to some degree to ascertain the problem, the fee covers the diagnosis, reassembly and return shipping should you decide not to have the repair completed.

SHIPPING:
MotorCity WatchWorks is not responsible for watches that are in transit. We strongly recommend you insure your shipment. We do NOT ship watches without insurance.
Shipping and handling to return your watch is $9.50 for USPS first class mail, this includes $200 of insurance. Add $1.25 for USPS priority shipping.
Additional insurance is $1.25 per $100 up to $2,000. For amounts greater than $2,000 please inquire.
Ship cost is for United States only. For international rates PLEASE INQUIRE.
We can accept packages from all major carriers (USPS, FedEx, UPS). We will use either USPS or UPS to return your watch. Signature confirmation upon request and will be added to all parcels insured for $1,500 and higher.
Shipping your watch in a watch box increases logistics at our end and shipping costs in general, Please do not send any watch boxes or paperwork.
The PayPal invoice is confirmation that your watch has arrived. If you are paying with a check or money order we do not send a confirmation email of your watches arrival, you are free to inquire though.
It can take up to 7 days after your watch arrives to get checked in and the paypal invoice sent.
The extra charge to ship parts international is to cover the transportation and time spend at the post office.
FREE INSTALLATION:
We will install the following parts for free:
- Hands purchased from the parts page of
www.motorcitywatchworks.com - Dials purchased from the parts page of
www.motorcitywatchworks.com. Dials must be drop in replacements, dials requiring custom fitting do not qualify for free installation. - Watch parts from other suppliers if your watch has been disassembled for custom work and the part being replaced has already been removed.
All other parts purchased from the parts page of www.motorcitywatchworks.com will be installed at a discounted rate, please inquire.
Special order parts will be charged regular labor rates.
All labor charges will be clearly explained after you contact us with your requested work.
EMAIL AND COMMUNICATION:
We will try to respond to all emails and general communication within 12 hours, sometimes this is not possible as much time is spent at the workbench. Please allow ample time for your inquiries to be addressed.
CUSTOMER TESTIMONIALS:
If you really need one I just did a watch for my Mom and Dad :-) really though, references are available. Of the many web based watch forums the one I am most active in is www.watchuseek.com username is V8. There are plenty of references in the watch deals forum as well, links to these posts are available.
TURN AROUND TIME:
We can certainly appreciate the excitement you have for getting your watch returned (in fact we share it), however to make absolutely certain quality is maintained we will not rush jobs out the door.
After your watch arrives, gets checked in, and paypal payment is received it is placed in line for work. Current wait times are 12 to 18 weeks for work requiring bead blasting, movement servicing, and small lume jobs. 16 to 24 weeks for work requiring ceramic coating, and larger lume jobs.
There are exceptions but this has been average. We will do our best to keep you informed if the work on your watch will exceed this time.
Smaller jobs such as dial and hand installs usually take 4 to 6 weeks.
MotorCity WatchWorks is a part time hobby run by a dedicated watch enthusiast. Although I do have some help, 95% of the work is done by myself after a full time job as a CAD engineer and family responsibilites (still have to cut the lawn and take the kids to soccer)
It is these factors that have the largest impact on turn around times, therefore I do not accept rush jobs or work requiring a dedicated completion date. Please keep this in mind if you have specific timing needs.
PAYMENTS:
Payments can be made by paypal, check, or money order. Payments must be made in full before work will be started or parts shipped. Personal checks will be held for 10 business days.
If paying by personal check or money order please let us know before shipping your watch.
WARRANTY:
MotorCity WatchWorks warranties all parts we sell on our parts page, all custom work, and movement services for 90 days.
Failure of any part manufactured by us will be replaced or repaired. Movement service warranty does not cover broken parts or water infiltration.
This warranty does not cover abuse or damage to crystals, coatings, finishes or water infiltration. It also does not cover parts purchased from other suppliers.
SERVICES NOT OFFERED:
As much as we would like to be your full service watch shop there are a few services we are not providing at this time:
- PVD coating
- Cerakote ceramic coating of watch bracelets
COATING DURABILITY:
While Cerakote ceramic coating is extremely durable it is still a coating. And just like PVD, electron plating, powder coating, etc the surface can be damaged if hit against a hard or rough object. The MotorCity WatchWorks warranty does not cover this type of damage.
